Meanwhile, the anti-feminists continue to spam that category with nominations for Small Dead Animals.
Allowing those nominations is akin to allowing homophobic blogs being nominated in the LGBT category.
BY, it’s probably temporary if they got stuffed into moderation automatically. You’ve nominated a LOT of blogs, WordPress may have assumed you were spamming, but we’ll fix it within days. If you don’t see them show up by the 22nd, let us know.
So, what happens next? Will abominominations for the Best Feminist Blog, such as this one: http://dustmybroom.com/content/view/5947/1/ be allowed to stand?
We have a judge (who in the feminist category is not me nor Saskboy) examine every blog in a category and determine whether the nominated blog belongs there or not. The blogs that the judge determines belong in the category shall make it to the first round ballot.
I’d really like to know what scientific background has your Sci/Tech because most of them are really far from being good science……..

Any Sci/Tech award that includes (count ’em) three of Denyse O’Leary’s paranoid delusional anti-science creationist blogs is rather suspect.

It’s not as if there are no real science blogs from Canada.
Perhaps you could have a section for “Denyse O’Leary Blogs” (she posts enough for her own category) or “Pseudoscience, Woo and Quackery Blogs”
Are there any stats on which part of the country the nominees are coming from? I’d be interested to see if bloggers are generally spread out all over or concentrated in a few specific areas.

There’s also EasternBlot, who I think was not nominated this time, and I forgot to do it. Who did you nominate before the deadline? The awards run on blog reader submissions nearly 95%.
I’m not a fan of fake-science, or its blogs, but the category was open to blogs discussing science or technology from any perspective. Should a fake-science blog win, it’s not an endorsement of fake-science it just means it’s a popular blog to read and vote for. Perhaps next year someone will volunteer to judge the Sci-Tech category and ensure blogs are Canadian and talk about real science and/or technologies.
You should organize voting for the ones you want to win. Remember, if several blogs by one person get through, in one category, they are simply vote-splitting themselves.

XUP, no one has compiled those stats. I have made a list of Saskatchewan blogging nominees. Last year the Windsor area blogs cleaned up a bit so they might have stats on blogs nominated from their region too.
The blogs tend to be concentrated, due to the the awards being reader-nomination driven. Word of mouth is crucial for bloggers even knowing of the CBAs, so it grows a little every year becoming hopefully less regionalized.
Unfortunately I didn’t hear about it until after nominations had closed. I read and contribute to several blogs (including Sandwalk) but don’t really care whether they are Canadian, just that they’re good.
Simply being nominated in a science category implies credibility in science. Which is clearly not the case.
This unfortunately shows that the award is rather meaningless. The popularity of a blog can be unambiguously determined from its traffic.

No offense to you personally, but you folks really should reconsider your vetting process. The lack of oversight has the potential of making your awards look stupid or worse. Scrutinizing site content to vet the nominations for all categories should occur every year, period.
Winners can bring ridicule and disrepute on your awards by simply being antithetical to the “spirit” of the category they (hypothetically) win in.
Your contention appears to be that such an event wouldn’t reflect some endorsement by the Canadian Blog Awards.
Imagine that a hypothetical pseudoscience or rabid antifeministsite wins your award, and then subsequently trumpets their win prominently and permanently across their site, and at other sites across the intertubes. At best it makes your awards APPEAR to endorse the winning sites, to the casual reader.
Imagine going to a neo-nazi webpage that splashes a banner “WE WON THE CANADIAN RACE RELATIONS AWARD!!!!” in flashing red letters across the across the site.
Do you really think that the “Canadian Race Relations Award” looks good just because it has a “we don’t endorse the winners” stipulation somewhere on *their* site?
Having an “antifeminist” site win in the feminist category can also make the casual reader think that you endorse mysogyny, too. Perhaps this doesn’t concern you much, but it should.
Excuse my spelling/grammatical/form errors — I should have double-checked it before posting. “Mysogyny” should be misogyny, etc. Gah.
Quidam, I’m asking the CBA judges to review the Sci-Tech category. We probably won’t add blogs that missed the deadline, but we will correct spelling errors and ones that don’t meet the criteria for the category. I can’t say yet if the rest agree that some may need to be moved or removed. Personally I think some of the ones in Sci-Tech belong in Religion/Philosophy instead.
