Posted: February 5, 2009 by John Klein in discussion

The 2009 CBAs are not yet underway, but organizing them begins this week. Many of last years’ Operators are continuing their roles, and we want to grow our group to include more bloggers from more genres and backgrounds so we can have a bigger and better awards for 2009. If you’re interested, please contact us at

with a short explanation of your background in blogging, and what you’d like to see done. If we can use your talent, we’ll add you to the team of Operators who are responsible for running a fun, and fair awards.

When does the 2009 CBA actually start?

  2. Saskboy says:

We’ll have an announcement by mid-October for you and everyone.

  3. Patti says:

How do we nominate a blog that hasn’t been in the running before?

  4. Canadu says:

Haven’t heard enough of this in the blogosphere. You consider EL CANADU? We have picture of Lada car on our blog.

  5. Saskboy says:

Later in October we’ll announce how to make nominations on this site.

  6. fruityoaty says:

Just an observation or possibly a request… How come there’s no “Best Food Blog” category? Something to think about…

  7. Dave Maas says:

I’d love to see the “Best Photo/Art Blog” split into two different categories this year. There are tons of photoblogs (photos of newsy things) out there, and tons of art blogs out there, and it doesnt seem fair for them to have to compete against one-another.

  8. Saskboy says:

There are some reasons to have large categories, for one it creates a larger competition. Even though there’s only one number one in each category, everyone wins through cross promotion and friendly competition.

  9. The Nag says:

I know it sounds like sour grapes but the second place winner in last year’s cultural entertainment blog clearly belonged in a political category.

  10. Sandy Crux says:

It’s ridiculous to put “Education” and “Disability” in the huge “Professional” category. I came 2nd in 2007. Last year you didn’t even recognize the “Education” category. For shame!

  11. saskboy says:

What’s ridiculous is that you’re complaining about that.

  12. Sandy says:

Sask Boy — I am not complaining because I won in 2007.

I am complaining because in 2008 you didn’t have an “Education” category, nor are you going to have one for 2009.

Last year I had many e-mails from people who would have liked to vote for me.

Moreover, how are my concerns ridiculous, particularly since you used that category in 2007. Like there are hundreds of Canadian “education” sites. Why are we being lumped in with people who have nothing to do with education? It’s a very complex topic and deserves its own category — whether I am nominated or not.

Please at least have your committee think about it.

  13. saskboy says:

If you really need a Best Education Blog award this year, run one. There are the F-word awards, the CLAWbies, and we can link to and promote each one we’re made aware of.

There are hundreds of education blogs in Canada, yes. Only a fraction are interested in competing. If you’re enthusiastic enough, run a blog awards for that subtype of blog.

  14. Hi Sandy,

We have two reasons why we merged the education, business, military categories into the professional life category.

The first reason is the when a few of these categories existed separately, they got too few nominations and were thus not viable.

The second reason is that other professions, such as law, were not covered, and chances are, we’d would miss other professions if we tried to separate them into different categories.

If you have a suggestion to overcome these problems, we will consider them, but right now, this seems like the most effective solution.

  15. Sandy says:

Thanks but no thanks SaskBoy. Funny I had the impression that was what you were doing here — running blog awards for all categories.

In any event, while I am not concerned about myself, it obviously would be a conflict of interest for me to run my own.

Mind you, your attitude sucks big time. You obviously don’t like or want input or suggestions. So it’s doubtful I’ll even vote this time around.

    Anyway, good luck to everyone!

  16. saskboy says:

Sandy I’m sorry you feel that way. Thanks for your input — I was just giving an honest account of how I felt about it. We are running an award for all Canadian blogs, not all categories which would be impossible.

  17. […] needed to be corrected. Perhaps now the CBAs are in line with at least some of our previous detractors. If not, I wish them well running their own complimentary blog awards for their desired categories, […]

  18. I think we need lots more categories , maybe the best blog writen by GAB category, I’m sure it will be a hard fight between my two, but I promise to lose /win graciously
